Amanda Hughes LeFranc, PhD is a clinical research scientist who has spent nearly two decades building, running, and fixing real research programs in real clinical settings. She currently serves as Director of Clinical Research & Quality at the UConn Musculoskeletal Institute and is the Founder and CEO of voxPRO Health, a nonprofit working to make musculoskeletal research more practical, more human, and more useful.
Her work lives at the intersection of outcomes, patient experience, and how research actually functions on the ground. She’s led more than $8M in federally and industry funded studies, including large multi-site trials with the Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium and current FDA-funded work on opioid safety. She has co-authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in journals like JAMA Surgery and JBJS, but she cares just as much about the studies that never make headlines and still change care.
A big part of Amanda’s work is teaching people how to do this well. She mentors students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty, and has taught at UConn, Washington University, and Campbell University. She speaks often about how to build research programs that are rigorous without being rigid, efficient without being careless, and ambitious without burning people out.
Outside of work, she is a mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She loves books, art, travel, and strong coffee. She has too many pets, a long reading list, and a deep appreciation for people who ask good questions.
